Sparkling Mineral Waters in The Wye Valley

We do take seriously the fact that some people may not wish to drink alcoholic drinks or beverages high in sugar content, so we have assembled an interesting selection of (mainly) sparkling mineral waters from around Europe.

Of course you can enjoy them as well as your usual tipple (they all go great with a nice red wine).

Vichy Catalan, Catalonia, Spain

Vichy Catalan Spanish Sparkling mineral water is synonymous with good health, encapsulating the essence of Spanish culture. Established in 1881, it is a Naturally Sparkling water with a high mineral content and a distinctive taste. This premium water emerges from the ground at 60 degrees Celsius, which gives it a unique personality.
It is unlike any other sparkling mineral water. It compliments food beautifully and comes highly recommended by gastronomic personalities.
The water is rich in minerals from the heart of the earth, which coincidentally have been shown to lower cholesterol, thus benefitting the heart. It also has many other health properties.

Badoit, Loire, France

Badoit is a naturally carbonated water obtained from natural sources in Saint-Galmier, France.
It is named after Auguste Badoit, who first bottled the water in 1883.
The popularity of Badoit is due to it’s digestive-aid qualities owing to the high levels of Bicarbonates, in fact it was only sold in pharmacies until 1954.

Carvalhelhos, Barosso Hills, Portugal

Carvalhelhos water springs naturally in the Barroso Hills, in the village of Carvalhelhos.
The two springs, named Lucy and Stella in honour of the two daughters of the company founder, have been known for over 150 years.
The remarkable healing capacities of these waters gave place to a thermal activity which led to the appearance of the Caldas Santas de Carvalhelhos.

San Pellegrino, Lombardy, Italy

San Pellegrino is produced and bottled at San Pellegrino, Terme, in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy.  The water may originate from a layer of rock 400 metres (1,300 ft.) below the surface, where it is mineralized from contact with limestone and volcanic rocks. It emerges from three deep springs at a temperature of about 22°C (72°F).
The springs are located at the foot of a Dolomite mountain wall which favours the formation and replenishment of a mineral water basin. The water then seeps to depths of over 700 m (2,300 ft.) and flows underground to a distant aquifer.
San Pellegrino mineral water has been produced for over 600 years. In 1395, the town borders of San Pellegrino were drawn, marking the start of its water industry. Leonardo da Vinci visited the town in 1509 to sample and examine the town’s “miraculous” water, later writing a treatise on the subject.

Voss, Norway

Voss is a popular and refreshing bottled water and is sourced from an underground aquifer in southern Norway and protected from pollutants by a layer of rock and ice.

Barjomi, Georgia

A unique natural Sodium Hydrocarbonate mineral water with natural mineralization and carbonation. In its composition and therapeutic characteristics Borjomi is similar to French mineral water Vichy, due to which fact in the XIX century the Europeans called it accordingly – “the Caucasian Vichy”. Numerous researches testify to the fact that the mineral composition of Borjomi has not altered since 1830, the time of investigations starting.

Chateldon 1650, Auvergne, France
